The hydration reservoir has a 100 fl. Oz capacity (about 3 liters) enough to last several hours on the trail. Removing the reservoir from the pack is pretty easy as is refilling it thanks to the large opening provided for this purpose. It has a water saving bite valve which is conveniently positioned on the pack for easier access.

Design and comfort features

The CamelBak Octane 18X Hydration Pack is unisex pack made from polyurethane-coated rip stop nylon. The pack offers a total of 1, 280 cubic inches of storage space from your gear in addition to the 3 litter hydration reservoir.

Camelbak-Octane-18X-4aOne of the features that distinguish the CamelBak Octane 18X Hydration Pack from other lightweight packs is the expandable section. When unzipped the front of the back pack exposes an adjustable strap with a clasp that helps keep the additional pocket securely fastened.

The Octane 18X is equipped with a hip-belt which not only improves load stability, but also provides extra storage space in the form of 2 small zippered compartments where you can keep items for quick access.

For comfort, the straps are well padded and easily adjustable to secure the best fit for your body which means that you can carry this pack for those long walks without discomfort. Moreover, it has several elastic bands fed through the pack which when pulled, help bind the pack around the contents tight, decreasing its profile and keeping the contents in position.

The back panel is made of breathable mesh material that allows easy movement of air across your back for better comfort and ventilation.

Product weightCamelbak-Octane-18X-2a

The pack is as lightweight as they can get with a total weight of just one pound when the water reservoir is fully filled up! Other dimensions include:

Storage volume: 823 – 1098 cubic inches

Reservoir capacity: 3L

Pockets: 2 waist-belt cargo pockets. One small organizer.

In spite of the lightweight materials, the Camelbak Octane 18x is a sturdy and compact backpack that sits well with a full bladder and has just enough storage sections to keep the snacks and electronics segregated from the main load.

The uniquely designed bladder performs a double act by offering additional structural support that helps the pack retain its shape while offering extra cushioning since the internal baffle gives it a Camelbak-Octane-18X-5asignificantly less cylindrical shape when filled. The pack is unsuitable or bikers and trail runners looking for 3 liters of hydration and likely to be using more than half of the storage capacity most of the time.

Final thoughts on the Camelbak Octane 18X

With convenient pockets, and an effective hydration system, you have everything strategically placed.
